Remember I have an NTFS partition on the same external USB HD, and even after formatting the rest of the drive, re-partitioning, and re-installing and configuring Debian, everything on the NTFS partition is still intact and working fine. I think Ive tried to boot straight into Linux, by modifying boot.ini, using the Windows loader, but it would say that some DLL file is missing.īTW, my drive is working. Well, it does the same thing as before, it just goes straight to Windows loader, where at first, it would give the option of booting to Windows, or Debian Installer.

So, I spent the last hour or so re-installing Debian, but I chose install LILO this time. So far, I only really used rescue mode, where it has a re-install GRUB option. I dont think Ive tried any thing through the command line to re-install GRUB. Like I said, everything was probably setup just fine until I ran fixmbr. But anything on the Debian installation is inaccessible. I can access 'boot.ini', and 'grub.cfg', since they are on the Windows C Drive. So, please help me get GRUB to be able to load Debian again. The remaining free space is partitioned as NTFS.

The exception being /Home, which the installer wanted to give all of the remaining free space, but I changed /Home to an even 100GB. When Debian was installed, I chose the options to have the many different partitions, which I let the installer choose the size of each partition. Debian is installed on an external 300GB USB drive. Windows is the primary OS installed normally on an internal HD. So I ended up doing a 'fixmbr' from my Windows disk. I got an error 21, only to realize the cause (this time) was a loose USB connector. Really, I just need help getting GRUB configured to boot Linux again.
